- It's still mostly about the COWS!
- I continue to work fulltime for Flow Financial Planning, LLC.
- I spend most of my time on my family's small farm, where I work from home and try to keep up with all the tasks of maintaining just under three acres.
- I continue to play the piano (and occasionally organ) for the Sunday worship service one to two times per month at Peace Lutheran Church in Silvana, Washington.
- It's been almost eight years since I moved back to the Pacific Northwest after more than two decades in Southern California.
- As of June 2024, it had been 30 (!!) years since I moved to California from Washington, crossing the border into California just as O.J. Simpson's freeway chase and arrest for murder hit the news.
- I recently learned about Bear for personal websites from Derek Sivers, who recommends the service on his Now Page instructions page. Last year I had tried going all tech-independent following Sivers' instructions, but that was beyond my skill- (and desire-) level, especially the email part. I really like Bear; it has just the right level of DIY and reminds me of when I started blogging back in August 2001 (over 23 years ago now!). Then I had to learn the basics of html; now I am learning the basics of markdown.
- I go through different phases of what I watch and listen to on YouTube. Here are some recent favorites:
- Nate Hagens of The Great Simplification. Excellent topics and guests. Polished, articulate interviewing. No ads because the podcast is underwritten by the sponsoring nonprofit.
- The New Enlightenment with Ashley
- Doomer Optimism
- Prof. Tom Murphy
- The Life Tidy
- Just a Few Acres Farm
- Real Food Real People (NW Washington interviews)
- Sheng Huang
- Some of the many email newsletters I'm subscribed to:
- Field Notes from Christopher Brown.
- The China We Never Knew from Dan Reid.
- Coming of Aging from Vicki Robin (author of Your Money or Your Life).
- The Bookshelf, by Tim Hoiland, a fellow MK (missionary kid).
- Theology & a Recipe, by Sarah Hinlicky Wilson.
- On The Cusp, by my former colleague, Maddie Burton.
- Favorite Twitter accounts, when I go there....
- John Wilson All things books and book reviews on matters I am keenly interested in.
- Matthew J Milliner An art history professor at my alma mater.
